We are proud to announce that we have accepted our first female recipient, Yan Torres. She is 21 years old, originally from Caguas, Puerto Rico, and dreams of opening a sustainable restaurant, focused on teaching the community about sustainability and empowering people of scarce resources to start a career in culinary arts. We are very excited about mentoring her and helping her to become a strong Latino female chef. Yan has studied in Barcelona, Spain and San Juan, Puerto Rico and hopes to continue her travels and explore different cultures and cuisines.
Alejandro Castellon is 20 years old from New Orleans and is of Mexican descent. He currently has two jobs, speaks multiple languages including Spanish, Arabic and Chinese, and is involved in community service. We are thrilled that he is our 2018 New Orleans scholarship recipient and look forward to mentoring him through his journey.
