Though Cinco de Mayo celebrations will definitely look different this year compared to the festive gatherings we’re used to seeing across the country – after all, it’s one of the most popular Mexican holidays here in the U.S. – that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate at home! Personally, we usually throw a big fiesta and have lots of people over to our house, so I’m also thinking of fun things we can do given our current situation. I, for one, want to make sure that everyone is still having fun with their family and loved ones – even if that’s via a virtual party!
This year will certainly be a shift for all of us, but that doesn’t mean that the love, fun and food we share need to change. In fact, in these uncertain times, it feels more important than ever before to honor all we have to be thankful for. Even as my celebration switches to a virtual video chat with loved ones this year, my Cinco de Mayo party must-haves are staying the same – and those are cheesy queso dip and salsa packed with homemade flavor!
I love to indulge in queso dip during these festivities because it’s so easy and decadent. Whether you’re digging into Cacique’s Queso Blanco, Jalapeño, Southwestern or Chipotle Queso Dip, these are perfect easy and authentic options to kick off your celebrations. I love that they’re made with real cheese and Queso Fresco is the first ingredient. All you have to do is microwave them for 2 – 3 minutes for a delicious snack that doesn’t cause a pile up of dishes, because I’m sure we could all use a little break! Cacique Queso Dips are perfect for topping nachos – like in my Cheesy Chorizo Nachos – as well as for simply dipping your favorite crudité veggies and even dunking a taco or quesadilla. My personal favorite is the Queso Blanco dip but do your thing – whichever queso makes you happy is exactly what you should indulge in, especially right now!
Likewise, salsa is essential to any Mexican dish, so I like to always have it on hand in my house to create balance in any meal. It brings acidity, brightness and freshness, so whatever you are planning to make, factor in some salsa. It is so versatile and works with such a large array of flavors, so it’s kind of hard to go wrong here – plus you can just snack on some with tortilla chips! It’s even a great way to freshen up leftovers. Cacique Homestyle Salsas are crafted with fresh, high quality produce using a small batch process that ensures homemade, authentic Mexican flavors in every bite. They have a large range of offerings in varying degrees of spiciness, including Mild, Medium and Hot, as well as specialty flavors like Fire Roasted and Hatch Chile Salsa Verde. Whatever flavors or heat level you like best, they’ve got you covered.
I hope that all of you have a beautiful and safe holiday with your loved ones and always remember to Go Auténtico – even when your celebration is going virtual!
